Privacy & Cookies

Who we are

WeaponSpecs is an independent spec database and comparison site for defense systems. We publish specifications sourced from public manufacturer pages, defense-ministry releases and reference publications.

What data we collect

The site is a static website. We do not require accounts and do not sell data. We only process personal data when you choose to give it to us:

  • Contact form. If you use our contact form, the name, email, company and message you submit are sent to us by email so we can reply. We use these details only to respond to your enquiry.
  • Tools. Our planner and calculators run entirely in your browser. Any layout or inputs you create are stored locally on your device (browser localStorage) and are not sent to us.

Cookies & local storage

We aim to use as few cookies as possible, and nothing non-essential loads before you choose. Analytics is off by default: no analytics script runs and no analytics cookie is set until you actively accept it in the banner.

CategoryWhat it doesConsent
Strictly necessary Remembers your cookie choice (ws-consent-v2, localStorage) and any locally-saved tool layouts (compare selections, saved range maps). Stored on your device only, never sent to us. No tracking. Always on
Embedded media System videos use a click-to-play thumbnail; nothing loads from YouTube until you press play, and playback then uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com mode. Toggling this off in the banner reflects your preference, but no video will call out to YouTube unless you explicitly click play. Requires consent
Analytics A privacy-focused analytics setup (Google Analytics) for anonymous, aggregate usage statistics such as which pages and tools are used. Sets _ga and _ga_<id> cookies, each expiring after up to 2 years, with event data retained no longer than 14 months. Every visitor starts with analytics storage denied, and nothing is requested until you accept. Requires consent

You can accept, reject, or choose per category in the banner, and change or withdraw your choice at any time via (also in the footer). Withdrawing consent stops new analytics collection immediately; it does not delete data already sent to Google under a prior consent.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws (including the French Data Protection Act enforced by the CNIL and the German TTDSG/BDSG) you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data you have sent us, object to its processing, and withdraw any consent you've given, at any time and free of charge. Withdrawing consent is as simple as giving it: use for cookies, or contact us for anything else. To make a request, contact us via the contact form. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for example the CNIL in France or the responsible Landesdatenschutzbehörde in Germany).

Third parties

We don't publish details of our internal infrastructure or tooling. Where a third party is genuinely needed to handle something you send us, it processes that data under its own privacy policy: embedded videos are served by YouTube (privacy-enhanced, click-to-play), and, only if you accept analytics, aggregate usage data is processed by Google under Google's own privacy policy.
